Calendar of Event
Monday 5th March 2018 new season begins Driving through Stone Cross and up the hill, you will see that Stone Ness is no more. The white conservatory, which 60 years ago was a roadside farm shop, the pretty Victorian porch at the western end, the extensions added over the years - all gone. Stone Ness has embarked on a very exciting project, a modern , fully insulated, ecologically sound bungalow has been built in its place.
This has enabled us to incorporate a purpose built flat for 'Short Break' holidays for Carers with the Person They Care For, to have a holiday and enjoy the Walled Garden and the beautiful country side around us.
Please see the 'SHORT BREAKS' page for more details and pictures.
The bungalow has taken many months to build, with an ecological heating system providing underfloor heating throughout.
The picture shows James and John, two of our gardeners with the time capsule that was placed in the bungalow's foundations.
We are ready and looking forward to welcoming our guests.
Sorry, no dogs allowed in the Walled Garden - a dog may come accompanied on the 'Short Breaks' holidays by prior arrangements
There is a ramp for access into the bungalow, but due to the lie of the land wheelchair access is not possible in the Walled Garden
STONE NESS BUNGALOW & WALLED GARDENS ARE NON SMOKING ZONE
The last week for the gardeners to come to Stone Ness will be the week : Monday 6th - Friday 9th of November. We will finish our busy gardening year with our Get-Together with fun and games and a present from Rosie and Chloe our ponies.
Work will continue by the team, led by Jean during the winter in readiness for a March start next year (weather permitting!!)
OPEN DAY 2018 REVIEW
We have a lively social calendar with BBQs and Open Days when we welcome friends and families and people interested in our project. Our Open Day on Saturday 21st July was a sizzling success (sunshine-sausages-a SURPRIZE!) As always, the Walled Garden was star of the show, with hollyhocks. buddleias, lavender and sweet peas providing stunning colour and fragrance.
Bringing it all to life was our fabulous team of Walled Gardeners and Volunteers, who made up most of the 70 visitors that day. Families of 5 of our gardeners came along, and 15 local folk who hadn’t been before.
The 2018 Walled Cup Final (you thought it was all over – but it is now!) Cup winner was Isaac from Oakley School,
He stroked the ball calmly between 2 wellies. Runner-up was Bob, and equal 3rd Graham and Tori.
Then, the BIG SURPRIZE (pre-arranged by us?) – a thunderous fly-past, right over our heads- THE RED ARROWS on their way back from the Eastbourne Air Show!!
On into the afternoon, and the heat was taking its toll. We played ‘Scarecroquet’ and threw a few wellies. Cake and hot dog eating continued at a slower pace, them we all went home.
